Protect Your Children from Swimming Pools 447 views

If you are a homeowner with a swimming pool, you should know how to make your pool childproof even if you don’t have any children of your own. And you also need to know about what steps you are taking to protect your children from swimming pools even if you do not own one because of the popularity of residential swimming pools.

To make your pool childproof, you should put up a tall-enough fence with a self-closing/self-latching gate to separate your home from the pool. If you have an above-ground pool, make sure the ladder into the pool is up and inaccessible to children. And you should consider using safety pool covers to protect your children, babies and even pets from falling into the pool. But you must remove the pool cover completely when children are swimming. Never use a pool with its pool cover partially in place since children may become trapped under it. And last but not least, make sure to keep rescue equipment, such as a shepherd’s hook or life preserver, and a telephone with emergency numbers at poolside.

And the most important thing to protect your children from swimming pools while they’re swimming or around a pool, they should never be left unattended in or near the pool even for a moment. Parents should instruct babysitters about potential hazards to young children in and around the swimming pool and stress the need for constant supervision.
